The Moon is Not Only Beautiful

I'm stuck on Cat Power again, as it seems I've been off and on since 1998 in Seattle when I found Moon Pix in my CD rack seemingly dropped into my world like a floating ember. It keeps glowing.

I picked up a DVD/short CD called Speaking for Trees with her in a field over the course of a day walking around with an amplified guitar singing her hits to the meadow. The other disc is an 18 minute song she wrote with M. Ward, an amazing musician out of Portland, called "Willie Deadwilder." It's like Dylan doing "Visions of Johanna" only as 21st Century walkin' blues.

Every morning I listen to a song from Cat Power's latest, The Greatest, and go further into the soul of a classic album -- one that goes through seasons and takes on new lives.

I remember seeing her at the old Opera House (now demolished) in Seattle, Bumbershoot, maybe '99? From that tidal fright to a totally accomplished artist by way of quite a few breakdowns, Chan Marshall is a musical inspiration of the finest kind. Her songs come on in a haze but sink into some place way under the skin. Later they sound like they've always been here.

Today I had "Lived in Bars" running through my mind and found this unbelievable video of it.
